Have you ever dreamt of being a rock star? I've spent countless hours dreaming up what my favourite musicians like Jeff Buckley, Powderfinger, Radiohead and Something For Kate did in their everyday lives. Where they ate, what their house looked like or what car they drove, so when I found out it's possible to stay in a real life recording studio where legends like Bernard Fanning, Grinspoon and Spiderbait have recorded albums, you can only imagine my excitement!
Enter Rockinghorse Studios, located in the hinterland of Byron Bay just 20 minutes drive from town. The property consists of the actual recording studio, as well as the accommodation located in a separate house and the best part, you don't actually have to be a musician to stay here.
The accommodation is designed to make you feel like you are far away from the world outside. Set on an acreage, this incredible house is wrapped with glass windows so you can see the lush hinterlands surrounding. They even encourage you to switch off from the tech and put a record on. Not that I needed an excuse to get the vinyl out.
The house has 4 queen bedrooms and a loft upstairs so there is plenty of room for you and your music loving crew. Not to mention there is also a pool which makes you feel like you're on your own private island and for those who really feel like they don't ever want to leave, a private chef can be arranged to come and cook at the house. Because, why not?!
So next time you're looking for a country escape that's still super close to amazing beaches AND a place where real life rock stars have been so inspired that they have recorded albums here, you should check out Rockinghorse Studios. So what if you are a real life rock star? Don't worry, you can actually rent the studio and record as well, not just dream about it.
