We arrived in Paros hoping to bask in nature and absorb as much of traditional Greece as we could. Paros didn’t disappoint. With its open roads and small-town mentality, Paros felt like the Greece I remember visiting years ago.

We rented quad bikes and spent two days adventuring – this being much easier than traipsing on foot for our fallen comrade. If you’re in Paros head to Kondilis Rentals – they’ll give you a good deal on bikes or quads, and will help you out if you get into trouble. We searched for places to shoot dreamy photos and found secluded rocky beaches, quiet villages, and donkey-filled farms.

Expenses were cheap, really cheap – at least a half of what we paid in Mykonos – and so naturally we let the food and wine flow to ease the pain of Cait’s fracture; we’re supportive friends after all… If you eat, eat at Stavros’ – a little nook in an alleyway near the port where I got a Greek salad and pita for 2 euros, and the others ate their weight in gyros (rotisserie meat wrapped in flat bread) for around 3 euros.

Paros took my breath away. Its valleys are coated in ancient ruins and its mountains are dappled with stone windmills – an obvious nod to a time of long ago. We rode until sunset when the night jasmine bloomed, and the scents of the flowers, salt and diesel made me dreamily drift away. On our last night in Paros, we went for dinner at Minios Restaurant (recommended to us from The Travel Project) that overlooks the ocean and serves an endless supply of free olives and bread. We drove back to our accommodation as the sun was setting on the incredible Mediterranean Ocean – full, tipsy and overcome with gratuity.

Paros is a place I would visit again and again. And again.
