Just as summer wraps up and you think for the 1000th time, “I kinda over did things this season, I should take it easy if I want to live past 40,” the Splendour line-up comes out and BAM your healthy resolve doesn’t stand a damn chance.
The 17th annual Splendour in the Grass festival looms this July 21st to 23rd and and hoooo boy it sure is a doozy. But when isn’t it? Seriously, somebody please tell me one year when Splendour didn’t have a lineup that made you pee yourself a little bit with excitement.
International heavyweights include Queens of the Stoneage, LCD Soundsystem, the XX and Sigor Róss. But that’s just the warm up. Two Door Cinema Club, BANKS, Future Islands, Real Estate, Catfish and the Bottlemen… you get the point right? It’s going to be insane.
Carrying the Aussie flag, we have Paul Kelly, Hockey Dad, King Gizzard, Pond, Vance Joy, Big Scary, Julia Jacklin, San Cisco and too many more to fit into the concise summary I’ve prepared for you. For the full lineup and more details head over to the official site here.
So naturally, tickets sold out faster than you can say “fark where’s my CREDIT CARD?!”. Within 30 minutes of the 9am ticket release last Thursday, all three-day, camping and single entry passes were snatched up. It stings a little, especially when you’re all geared up to part with nearly half a grand. BUT never fear, there’s plenty more opportunities to trade in your hard earned cash for the good times with Splendour’s resale portal, which has a wait list you can join here.
Until then, enjoy this excellent footage of Future Island's frontman Samuel T Herring throwing haymakers on Letterman (fun tip: he used to sing in a screamo band). It is somehow one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on the Internet.
